A Major Blow to the IHL

February 8, 2010

It was announced today that the Muskegon Lumberjacks will not be returning next season. This is a significant blow to the struggling IHL as the loss of the Lumberjacks will not only result in one less team, but potentially two.

I have yet to confirm this (ed. note: confirmed), but rumors are persisting that Quad City will be forced out of their lease with the iWireless Center. Apparently there is a part of the agreement which mandates that the Mallards must play in a league with at least seven teams. The loss of the Lumberjacks moves the league down to six teams.

This will be an interesting summer for the fledgling league as this is only one of the major issues facing its future.
