Carlson, Novotny & Palmieri Watch, Day 4

December 30, 2009

John Carlson and Stepan Novotny is a former member of the Indiana Ice and Kyle Palmieri is a current member of the Notre Dame hockey team. Since these players are the only three in the WJHC with ties to Indiana, I felt it necessary to track their play in the tournament.

All three players had an off day for the third night of competition. Last night they all returned to action.

Carlson and Palmieri’s Team USA skated to a 12-1 win over Latvia yesterday. Carlson failed to add to his point total in the rout, but Palmieri came up big with four assists. The Americans now turn their attention to the big New Year’s Eve show down with Canada.

Meanwhile Stepan Novotny notched two points in the Czech Republic’s 7-1 win over Austria. This was a big game for them as they needed this win to stay alive. It’s still a tough road ahead as the Czechs need to beat Russia on Thursday and get some help from Austria and Sweden to avoid the relegation round.
